On 3 November 2015, Swiss Life Asset Managers was awarded Le Globe d'or de la Gestion by the magazine Gestion de Fortune in the "patrimonial funds" category.
This award is in recognition of the SLF (F) Defensive P (FR0010308825) fund's performances analysed over 5 years. The methodology applied by Gestion de Fortune and Quantalys aims to identify UCITS which have outperformed over the long term while avoiding major market reversals. Performances are counted up to 30 September 2015.
The winner of this award for the second year running, SLF(F) Defensive P again saw off Nordea 1 – StableReturn Fund et Eurose in the "patrimonial funds" category. This award acknowledges our risk-management-based approach, which provides our investors with portfolios equipped to perform throughout the economic cycle.
Detailed presentation of the methodology for selecting the award winners for Gestion de Fortune and Quantalys
The methodology defined by Gestion de Fortune and Quantalys in 2015 is as follows:
- The aim of the selection: to find funds which have outperformed over the long term while avoiding the major market reversals, notably in the summer of 2011.
- Funds are selected based on their 5-year Sortino index. This is similar to the Sharpe index but substitutes DSR (down side risk) for global volatility in the denominator. DSR is volatility measured solely when the market performance is bearish (i.e. below a certain value, in this case the performance of Eonia). In other words, to recognize that volatility (the variation of a security around its average value) only becomes a problem when value is falling.
- Moreover, consistent with the aim of honouring funds that are resilient in bear markets, only those funds whose maximum drawdown over five years was less than average for their category are eligible.
